Paintexture
A downloadable Paintexture for Windows
Paintexture is a 3D texture painting app for Windows. Load a model, paint straight onto it, and watch the texture update in the 2D view at the same time.
FEATURES
- Paint on the model in 3D and on the texture in 2D, side by side
- Layers and folders: blend modes, opacity, masks, clipping, drag and drop
- Brushes: brush, pixel brush, airbrush, spray, smudge and eraser, with pressure support
- Make your own brushes: size, spacing, flow, hardness, scatter, jitter, custom tips and curves
- Depth channel with live relief on the model, and a normal map you can tune and export
- Selections, transform (free, distort, warp), mirror painting and filters
- Pen tablet support (Windows Ink or WinTab) with pressure
- Textures up to 8K, many undo steps, and seam padding for clean UV borders
- Multiple UV sets and materials per model
- Model formats: GLB, GLTF, FBX, OBJ, DAE, STL, PLY (and .blend if Blender is installed)
- Export: PNG, PSD with all layers, and normal maps
- Projects save everything (model, layers and settings) in one .ptex file
- Background autosave that never pauses your painting
- Custom themes, movable panels and editable shortcuts
REQUIREMENTS
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- A graphics card with WebGL2 (most cards from 2014 on). 4 GB of video memory recommended for 4K textures and up
- Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (already included in Windows 11; the installer links to the free download if it is missing)
NOTES
- Early Access: it works and is used daily, but it is still growing. Bug reports and ideas are very welcome in the comments.
- Windows may show a "Windows protected your PC" warning because the app is not signed yet. Click "More info" then "Run anyway".
